Real Madrid fans took to social media tonight to reveal starkly contrasting views on underachieving striker Eden Hazard’s latest display.
Cadiz stands
Carlo Ancelotti’s men of course returned to action a short time ago.
In the midst of a beautiful spell of recent form, Los Blancos hosted the Cadiz minnows at the Bernabeu, hoping to further extend their advantage at the top of La Liga with a three-point run.
In the end, however, Real failed, eventually being forced to settle for a share of the spoils.
Following a major Covid-19 outbreak in the club’s camp this week, the capital giants simply couldn’t find a very significant breakthrough, held at bay by a combination of profligacy in front of goal and the brilliance of Jeremias Ledesma.
36 – Real Madrid made 36 shots against Cadiz -nine on target-, the most of any team in one #The league game without scoring since at least the 2003/04 campaign. Unwise. pic.twitter.com/oagUFPMOnY

Back-and-forth danger
In turn, after a disappointing night’s work for their side, it shouldn’t come as a huge surprise to hear Real Madrid’s fan base taking aim at the club’s stars in a typically ruthless fashion.
The likes of Lucas Vazquez and even star Karim Benzema have come under fire following the full-time whistle in the Spanish capital as the Blancos faithful search for a scapegoat.
Another to have been forced to face quite a heavy backlash, meanwhile, has been Eden Hazard.
With Marco Asensio, Gareth Bale and Rodrygo all ruled out of Sunday’s action due to testing positive for Covid-19, the oft-maligned Hazard was used from the start against Cadiz.
Clearly, however, many feel the Belgian missed his last opportunity, culminating in more than a few calls for his sale to be sanctioned by the Bernabeu hierarchy in January:
Sell the danger ASAP

Hazard plays and we lose points? no surprise, Perez sells it

Risk of selling in January

Hazard has just left this club! FF

I did everything in my power to support Hazard. I love him, I love his passion. But he has to go. And he must leave as soon as possible. It’s tragic.

Interestingly, however, such calls have since been met in return by a widespread defense of Hazard.
Fellow Real fans were keen to hit out at what has obviously been identified as unwarranted criticism of their side’s struggling wide man, amid contrasting claims that, in fact, Hazard has stood out as the best Los Merengues player in the 90 minutes:
Why is everyone blaming Hazard? I swear he was one of the best players on the pitch in the second half
— ali (@tcourtois1ii) December 19, 2021
Hazard was Madrid’s best player tonight alongside Kroos. Were you watching another game?
— UNOA (@__Onua) December 19, 2021
Hazard was great in the second half lmao you just want someone to be a scapegoat
— RNComps (@rhnlocked) December 19, 2021
I know luck will be the scapegoat but if we are honest Benzema is one of the main reasons. We lost points today, we missed two clear chances.
Take it or leave it Hazard is the best player in our attacking trio today.

#FCExtraTime how can you say the danger was low today when he was the best player on the pitch. Create opportunities left and right. Turn defenders. Drawn what should have been a penalty. Make things happen. He is always classy.
— Jarel Orr (@jay_orr7) December 19, 2021
Cadiz has 0 shots on target.
Refree refused clear penalties.
I don’t know why people target Hazard, he was Real Madrid’s best player on the pitch, but yes our strikers missed many chances.#RealMadridCádiz— Madristagram (@madristagram) December 19, 2021
Hazard was our best player
— bn naseer (@Dadymakoda3) December 19, 2021
the thing is that madrid fans have no brains they are brainwashed by the media lol
Hazard was our best striker today and should have had 2 assists despite being out of position but they’ll still hate it
it’s just a scapegoat https://t.co/GZHwRwjaX9— ° #NationsLeagueMartial (@friendIyfoe) December 19, 2021
