Chelsea and Arsenal fans have faced off once again in the Mason Mount v Emile Smith Rowe debate, with the Gunners faithful highlighting what their number 10 did on Thursday night against Manchester United in the Premier League.
The pair both contributed important goals for their respective teams as the Blues remained top of the table after picking up three points on the road against Watford before Smith Rowe netted for Arsenal at Old Trafford.
“He never does [disappoint]”Danny Murphy said of the Cobham graduate on Match of the Day. “He has this quality and desire to keep falling behind and to keep getting into dangerous areas.
“He’s been missing a bit of playing time recently with dental issues, but you know what you get from him. You get great technique, great touch and a willingness to get into places that will score his goals.
“He pops up left, right – no matter where he plays, he’s always a threat. When they needed someone in a game where they were poor in the first half – those times in games, it’s is the difference between the best teams.
“They only need one or two chances. He very rarely makes the wrong decision.”
Meanwhile, Smith-Rowe’s somewhat controversial first-half goal that broke the deadlock against United was finally overturned as the Red Devils managed to give Michael Carrick a brilliant parting gift with victory 3-2.
There’s no doubt that both players are in the best form of their young careers so far with Chelsea’s number 19 in the top 20 of this year’s Ballon d’Or awards.
Smith Rowe, on the other hand, while not making this year’s list, is certainly on his way to making it if his current performances continue on the trajectory they are currently on.
But the comparison between the two players has arisen again with Arsenal fans trying to get one over their London counterparts claiming their attacking midfielder is better than Chelsea’s option.
