The wheelbarrow's fallen
Look at my hands
They've found some surplus, cheaper hands
Rubbing palms and pick and choose,
who will they choose? Here is the news.
Look at that building, look at this man
Haloed and whitewashed
Gone to find a cheaper hand
he'll offer a pound, offer a pound.
Green grow the rushes go
Green grow the rushes go
Green grow the rushes go
The compass points the workers home
Pay for your freedom, find another gate
Guilt by associate, the rushes wilted a long time ago
Guilty as you go
Stay off that highway, word is it's not so safe
The grasses that hide the greenback
The amber waves of gain again
The amber waves of gain
Green grow the rushes go
Green grow the rushes go
Green grow the rushes go
The compass points the workers home

It just feels like travelling. The feel of these kinds of REM songs... it just gives you this sense of longing... makes you want to just step back and think and breathe.![]()

Today I heard Green Grow The Rushes for the first time since I was very young. My dad and I were in our basement listening to music when he puts in this REM CD that I dont remember ever have hearing. A couple songs play, and they were in fact very well written songs but mainly(before I get offsubject..) Green Grow The Rushes caught my ear and after it played I asked him to play it again, which he instantly agreed to. After having played the second time I almost didnt even feel the need to tell my dad to play it a 3rd time.. I just about coulda looked at him and I knew that he knew from the look on my face that I was eagerly and almost ecstaticly awaiting the third playing of Green Grow The Rushes. This is a classic epic song. But it's much more than that to me... This song feels spiritual to me, very emotional, and best of all it actually makes believe that God does exist.
